    HFMADM method based on nondimensionalization and its application in the evaluation of inclusive growth

    Inclusive growth, which encompasses different aspects of life, is a growth pattern that allows all people to participate in and contribute to growth process. In this paper, a novel hesitant fuzzy multiple attribute decision making (HFMADM) approach based on the nondimensionalization of decision making attributes is presented and then applied to the evaluation of inclusive growth in China. Firstly, a novel generalized hesitant fuzzy distance measure is proposed to calculate the difference and deviation between two hesitant fuzzy elements (hfes) without adding any values into the shorter hesitant fuzzy element. Secondly, the coefficient of variation and efficacy coefficient method are extended to accommodate hesitant fuzzy environment and then used to cope with HFMADM. In the analysis process, non-dimensional treatment for hesitant fuzzy decision data is produced. Lastly, the method proposed in this paper is applied to an example of inclusive growth evaluation problem under hesitant fuzzy environment and the case study illustrates the practicality of the proposed method. Beyond that, a comparative analysis with some other approaches is also conducted to demonstrate the superiority and feasibility of the proposed method

    Mutual effects between Pinus armandii and broadleaf litter during mixed decomposition

    Mixed-decomposition effects are commonly observed in natural and planted forests and affect nutrient cycling in a forest ecosystem. However, how one litter type affects the decomposition of another is still poorly understood. In this study, Pinus armandii litter was mixed with Betula albosinensis, Catalpa fargesii, Populus purdomii, Eucommia ulmoides, and Acer tsinglingense litter. The mixtures were placed in litterbags and buried in soil with consistent moisture for a 180-day indoor simulated decomposition experiment. The litterbags were periodically harvested during decomposition; the litter residues of different species were separated, and the biomass dynamics of each litter type were simulated. In addition, the soil sucrase, cellulase and polyphenol oxidase activities were also detected three times. The mutual effects of needle and broadleaf litter during mixed decomposition and the possible underlying mechanisms were investigated. The results indicated that (i) during the decomposition experiment, P. armandii needles significantly inhibited the decomposition of broadleaf litter in the first 3 months, while the broadleaf litter accelerated the decomposition of P. armandii needles in only approximately 40% of the cases. However, the inhibitory effects of needles on broadleaf litter decomposition subsequently exhibited significant weakening, while the accelerating effects of broadleaf litter were significantly enhanced. The effects of mixed decomposition on the activities of three enzymes can only partially explain the interactions between different litter types; (ii) the prediction by the decomposition model showed that most of the broadleaf litter types could continuously accelerate the decomposition of P. armandii needles throughout the mixed decomposition process, while the decomposition of broadleaf litter would be significantly inhibited at least in the short term. In general, four of the five broadleaf litter types (excluding E. ulmoides) could accelerate the early decomposition of P. armandii needles and consequently accelerate nutrient cycling in P. armandii pure forests. These species could be used for the transformation of pure P. armandii pure forests to mixed forests

    Probabilistic hesitant fuzzy multiple attribute decisionmaking based on regret theory for the evaluation of venture capital projects

    The selection of venture capital investment projects is one of the most important decision-making activities for venture capitalists. Due to the complexity of investment market and the limited cognition of people, most of the venture capital investment decision problems are highly uncertain and the venture capitalists are often bounded rational under uncertainty. To address such problems, this article presents an approach based on regret theory to probabilistic hesitant fuzzy multiple attribute decision-making. Firstly, when the information on the occurrence probabilities of all the elements in the probabilistic hesitant fuzzy element (P.H.F.E.) is unknown or partially known, two different mathematical programming models based on water-filling theory and the maximum entropy principle are provided to handle these complex situations. Secondly, to capture the psychological behaviours of venture capitalists, the regret theory is utilised to solve the problem of selection of venture capital investment projects. Finally, comparative analysis with the existing approaches is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed method

    Ozonation of trace organic compounds in different municipal and industrial wastewaters : kinetic-based prediction of removal efficiency and ozone dose requirements

    For the wide application of ozonation in (industrial and municipal) wastewater treatment, prediction of trace organic compounds (TrOCs) removal and evaluation of energy requirements are essential for its design and operation. In this study, a kinetics approach, based on the correlation between the second order reaction rate constants of TrOCs with ozone and hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot) and the ozone and (OH)-O-center dot exposure (i.e., integral (sic)O-3(sic)dt and integral [(OH)-O-center dot]dt, which are defined as the time integral concentration of O-3 and (OH)-O-center dot for a given reaction time), was validated to predict the elimination efficiency in not only municipal wastewaters but also industrial wastewaters. Two municipal wastewater treatment plant effluents from Belgium (HB-effluent) and China (QG-effluent) and two industrial wastewater treatment plant effluents respectively from a China printing and dyeing factory (PD-effluent) and a China lithium-ion battery factory (LZ-effluent) were used for this purpose. The (OH)-O-center dot scavenging rate from the major scavengers (namely alkalinity, effluent organic matter (EfOM) and NO2-) and the total (OH)-O-center dot scavenging rate of each effluent were calculated. The various water matrices and the (OH)-O-center dot scavenging rates resulted in a difference in the requirement for ozone dose and energy for the same level of TrOCs elimination. For example, for more than 90% atrazine (ATZ) abatement in HB-effluent (with a total (OH)-O-center dot scavenging rate of 1.9 x 10(5) s(-1)) the energy requirement was 12.3 x 10(-2) kWh/m(3), which was lower than 30.1 x 10(-2) kWh/m(3) for PD-effluent (with the highest total (OH)-O-center dot scavenging rate of 4.7 x 10(5) s(-1)). Even though the water characteristics of selected wastewater effluents are quite different, the results of measured and predicted TrOCs abatement efficiency demonstrate that the kinetics approach is applicability for the prediction of target TrOCs elimination by ozonation in both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plant effluents

    Investment decision making along the B&R using critic approach in probabilistic hesitant fuzzy environment

    The Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative receives enthusiastic response, the aim of which is to develop cooperative partnerships with countries along the routes and build a community of common destiny. So far, Chinese companies have invested in many different countries along the B&R. Generally, the investment decision making problems are characterized by high risk and uncertainty. Then how to make an appropriate investment decision will be a thorny issue. In this paper, probabilistic hesitant fuzzy set (PHFS) is used for handling uncertainty in multiple attribute decision making (MADM), and the criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) approach is extended to obtain attribute weights, no matter whether the weight information is incompletely known or not. Considering that the existing probabilistic hesitant fuzzy distance measures fail to meet the condition of distance measure, a new distance between PHFSs is proposed and applied to investment decision making for countries along the B&R. In the last, comparative analyses are performed to illustrate the advantages of the presented approach

    Recently, a novel hesitant fuzzy set (HFS) ranking technique based on the idea of lexicographical ordering is proposed and an example is presented to demonstrate that the proposed ranking method is invariant with multiple occurrences of any element of a hesitant fuzzy element (HFE). In this paper, we show by examples that the HFS lexicographical ordering method is sometimes invalid, and a modified ranking method is presented. In comparison with the HFS lexicographical ordering method, the modified ranking method is more reasonable in more general cases

    A New Methodology for Hesitant Fuzzy Emergency Decision Making with Unknown Weight Information

    Once an emergency event occurs, effective emergency measures should be taken. It is known that the emergency event possesses characteristics of limited time and information, harmfulness, and uncertainty, and the decision makers are often bounded rational under uncertainty and risk. This paper presents a novel approach to emergency decision making with hesitant fuzzy information, which takes regret aversion of the decision makers into account. Firstly, based on the idea of the water-filling theory in the field of wireless communications, a mathematical programming model that can convert the attribute values into a compatible scale and eliminate the influence of different physical dimensions is constructed to determine the attribute weights. Then, a group satisfaction degree function is introduced into the regret theory to depict the psychological behaviors of the decision makers, based on which the perceived utility value function of alternative is constructed. The total perceived utility values of alternatives can be computed, and the ranking order of alternatives is obtained. Finally, a case study on a fire and explosion accident is given to illustrate the application of the proposed method. Besides that, the comparisons show the feasibility and superiority of the proposed method

    Characterization of feed efficiency-related key signatures molecular in different cattle breeds.

    Feed efficiency is a major constraint in the beef industry and has a significant negative correlation with residual feed intake (RFI). RFI is widely used as a measure of feed efficiency in beef cattle and is independent of economic traits such as body weight and average daily gain. However, key traits with commonality or specificity among beef cattle breeds at the same level of RFI have not been reported. Accordingly, the present study hypothesized that signatures associated with feed efficiency would have commonality or specificity in the liver of cattle breeds at the same RFI level. By comparing and integrating liver transcriptome data, we investigated the critical signatures closely associated with RFI in beef cattle using weighted co-expression network analysis, consensus module analysis, functional enrichment analysis and protein network interaction analysis. The results showed that the consensus modules in Angus and Charolais cattle were negatively correlated, and four (turquoise, red, tan, yellow) were significantly positively correlated in Angus liver, while (turquoise, red) were significantly negatively correlated in Charolais liver. These consensus modules were found to be primarily involved in biological processes such as substance metabolism, energy metabolism and gene transcription, which may be one of the possible explanations for the difference in feed efficiency between the two beef breeds. This research also identified five key candidate genes, PLA2G12B, LCAT, MTTP, LCAT, ABCA1 and FADS1, which are closely associated with hepatic lipid metabolism. The present study has identified some modules, genes and pathways that may be the major contributors to the variation in feed efficiency among different cattle breeds, providing a new perspective on the molecular mechanisms of feed efficiency in beef cattle and a research basis for investigating molecular markers associated with feed efficiency in beef cattle
